August marked one year since I joined SVL, and it’s been one of the most rewarding years of my career so far.

When I joined as a Business Development Representative, I was genuinely excited to dive into a fast-moving and innovative industry. This year overall has exceeded my expectations.

The contact centre space is constantly evolving, and being part of a team that’s helping customers stay ahead has been a brilliant experience.

A year of growth

Over the past 12 months, I’ve been fortunate to build meaningful relationships with colleagues, clients and partners across the UK. My role has introduced me to so many sides of the industry, from understanding customer challenges to seeing how technology can transform day-to-day operations.

More recently, I’ve started learning more about account management, which means I’ll be supporting our customers on a more strategic level. I’m looking forward to getting more hands-on and helping clients get even more value from their solutions.

Inspired from the start

Many of you won’t know this, but I grew up around this industry. My dad and godfather both worked at Cisco, and I did my school work experience there when I was 16. I saw a glimpse of the connections, lifestyle and the kind of work it involved and thought, “I want in.”

Fast forward to now, and I’ve been lucky enough to find my place at SVL, where I’ve felt supported and challenged in equal measure.

People make the difference

There have been so many stand-out moments over the past year. Hosting our own SVL event just two months into the role definitely threw me in at the deep end, but it was also the best way to learn. Meeting customers face to face, soaking up conversations, and understanding first hand what matters to them was a massive highlight.

I’ve also been lucky enough to travel for events, visiting Newcastle, Manchester and Glasgow, which I might never have done otherwise. It’s opened up so many opportunities to connect, learn, and grow – whilst experiencing new cities and sights!

And of course, I can’t write this blog without giving the team a massive shoutout. It’s hard to put into words just how much of a difference it makes to work with people who are not only brilliant at what they do but also genuinely lovely humans.

No two days are the same and it’s honestly the kind of culture that makes you want to show up and get stuck in.

Lessons I’ll take forward

The biggest lesson I’ve learned over the last twelve months is simple: say yes to the challenge. Even when things feel unfamiliar or a bit daunting, you grow so much by pushing yourself.

I also live by something my dad always reminds me: “Look after number one.” Speak up, ask for help, and don’t be afraid to put yourself first when it matters. Whether that’s in or outside of work, backing and believing in yourself is everything.

Looking ahead

The first year has been all about learning, growing and building confidence. Now I’m focused on continuing that progress, supporting more clients and developing even deeper relationships.

I’m excited about what’s ahead and so thankful to everyone who has been part of the journey so far. Let’s see what year two brings!
